“Kealani Night Falls” is my latest figurative painting in my new collection of Polynesian women. I love this subject matter, which for me depicts the Hawaiian Polynesian woman as strong and sensual. In my experience of living in Hawaii for 30 years, the Polynesian women are the powerhouse of the family unit.
I’m super excited about this series as it’s a great opportunity for those of you who love my work to collect a softer color palette. I am working with the positive and negative shapes, complementary and secondary complementary colors. Here I focus on simplifying shapes and using an outline quality that you can find in some of my heroes such as Matisse, Cézanne and Gauguin.
I am loving this new series, and I hope you do as well.

"Moon Dance" is an iconic original oil painting I created early in my career on Maui and it's now available for you to own. A private collection inspired by Henri Matisse's, "The Dance."
My influence and focus was on the femininity of Polynesian women and their culture. Dancing on a beach, under the moonlight, enjoying a cool summer's eve.
This is a rare opportunity to own one of my most sought after paintings.

For me, this painting has everything to do with being a wahine. It’s about two Polynesian women in the tropical rainforest having a heart to heart. One woman listening and the other woman giving advice. I love the leafy patterned background with a Matisse like cut out influence. The plush ground they sit on allows the women a comfortable place to lie while connecting through conversation.

I am thoroughly delighted to have one of my favorite figurative paintings of all time back in the Kim McDonald Art Gallery in Pa’ia. The gorgeous MAILE in size 24”x36” is now available. She is from a figurative series titled “Forever In My Dreams”.
One of Maile’s unique attributes features a color palette that is more subdued than my usual brighter color palettes of late. The oil paints I chose feature earthtone pigments enhancing glowing golden skin tones. This painting captures the essence of a Polynesian woman leisurely laying on her lauhala mat enjoying her solitary evening. A bowl of ripe mangoes by her side, representing abundance. MAILE is truly a jewel from my past.

Recently I took a trip to the French Polynesian islands on the the beautiful Paul Gauguin Cruiseline. The last stop of our cruise through French Polynesia was the island of Mo’orea. We were anchored in the bay of Opumohu overlooking the iconic mountain call Mount Thiea (Sharks Tooth) this painting is called “Moonrise Over Mo’orea’ which is celebrating the iconic mountain bathing the full moon on a tranquil bay.

Bora-Bora’s Mt Otemanu took my breath away when I came around the bend while I was taking a drive around the island. So gorgeous it stood there! If you didn’t see it, it’s hard to believe a Mountain could be shaped so artistically and uniquely. I tried to capture the essence of the magnificent mountain with the beautiful sunset colors, billowing clouds and the sparkling aqua waters with a little hint of the ocean life dolphins swimming in the bay. Here is my take of the gorgeous Mountain view with my artist interpretation.

French Polynesian, Mount Mouapta, also known as Shark Tooth Mountain. This mountain in Bora Bora took my breath away when we approached it on the Paul Gauguin Cruise. This is my view of Mouapta from the ship while we were anchored on Opunoho Bay for two glorious days. Here is my take of the gorgeous Mountain view with my artist interpretation.

My inspiration for the lavender skies is a phenomenon called scattering. This explains why certain colors dominate during sunrise and sunset. Scattering is the process by which tiny particles and molecules act in changing the direction in which light rays travel.
