Moonlit Dreams is the first release from the ‘Beaux Reves’ (beautiful dreams) series. Completed February 2, 2013
From Kim :
“In this piece i’m starting to break out of my traditional color palette mold and go for a lighter, more pastel influence. The bright full moon makes it almost look like daylight. I’ve included the iconic hut and canoes, and I just love the way the sky came out in this piece.”
Moonlit Dreams is an original oil on Canvas, completed February 2, 2013, and still available as of February 5. Available for viewing at the Kim McDonald Art Studio in Paia, Maui by appointment or walk-in as part of the Maui Open Studios event, February 9 and 10, 11am to 6pm.
Peacock Utopia is one of Kim’s first paintings of 2013, and is part of the ‘Beaux Reves’ (beautiful dreams) series.
Here’s Kim’s description of this piece:
“This is a fun piece, its one of the first times I’ve included a peacock in a piece. I was really influenced by the jewel tones and pattern of the peacock’s tail. This peacock lives in a mystical world, a kind of enchanted, tropical oasis. It has this mysterious glow about it. The color palette in this piece is more of a risky one for me, its more saturated.”

Kim will once again be participating in Maui Open Studios, an event that brings Maui residents and visitors directly into the studios and homes of Maui’s talented artists. The event kicks off with an opening celebration on Saturday, February 2 from 6-9pm at Maui Tropical Plantation. The event is free and open to the public.
For the next three weekends, artists will open their studio doors for the self-guided tours, depending on their location on the island. The first weekend, which Kim is participating in, is for the North Shore and Upcountry areas. From 11am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10, Kim’s studio will be open to everyone, with no reservations or registration required. Kim will be displaying her newest paintings, her fierce and dramatic Warrior Boards, and selling samples from her KAIKIMBA beach and office accessory line. There will be light pupus and beverages, as well as special prices on selected pieces.
The products are starting to arrive! After months of designing, finding manufacturers, ordering and not-so-patiently waiting, the KAIKIMBA beach (and now office!) accessories are starting to arrive! We ordered beach totes, which are just back from the silk-screeners after getting their ‘tattoos’, stainless steel water bottles, and these incredibly fun surfboard-shaped flash drives! Our towels are being packaged up in North Carolina and should be getting on a FedEx plane soon! And just in time, too, since we’ve already planned our Product Launch OPEN HOUSE!
In celebration of the KAIKIMBA Product Launch, we’re having an OPEN HOUSE on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Kim McDonald Studio in Spreckelsville, Paia, Maui.
We are also celebrating the unveiling of Kim’s new Canoe Series, original oil paintings!
There will be special introductory prices on all KAIKIMBA products, as well as special holiday offers for selected art prints and limited edition giclees.
Appointments will be taken for anyone interested in viewing the artwork prior to the sale, as these original oils are expected to move quickly as usual!
Kim had the pleasure of attending the Virgin Kite Jam Maui 2012 party last night at Hotel Wailea, which was sponsored by Cabrinha and LeTarte Swimwear, among others. LeTarte put on an amazing runway show, the models rocked it on the runway!
